Using a custom 200-ton hull the frontier trader is a merchant ship often used by smugglers. It has jump drive-B, maneuver drive-D, and power plant-D, giving the ship performance of jump-2 and 4-G acceleration. Fuel tankage of 80 tons supports the power plant and allows one jump-2. Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/1/bis computer. There are five staterooms and no low berths. There are two double turrets installed with fire control; both mount two beam lasers. Cargo capacity is 41 tons. There is also one ton of hidden cargo space for smuggling. The hull is streamlined. The frontier trader has a crew of five: Pilot, Engineer, Medic and two Gunners. The ship costs MCr 103.727 and takes 12 months to build.
The ship is built using Book 2 Starships rules.

To the left is the lower floor with the cargo bay and drives. The main fuel intake for the power plant is also here. To the right is the top floor with the bridge, the living area, and the drives. The size of the wings (with the fuel tanks) are also marked.
The standard symbols for bulkhead, interior walls and sliding doors are used. For iris valves a black circle is an iris valve in the floor. A blue circle is an iris valve overhead. Otherwise the standard “X” symbol is used. In the front of the cargo bay there is a large cargo door. The shaded floor in the drives section on the top floor means no floor. As usual, each square is 1.5*1.5 metres.
