Pheromone

Pheromone: A chemical substance that is produced by
an animal and serves as a specific stimulus to other
individuals of the same species for one or more behavioral
responses. The role of the Eslyat pheromone communication
system in their sociological development is not completely
understood. An Eslyat can send at least base, simple emotions
by the emission of chemicals to be received by another
Eslyat. The degree and frequency of this communication is
unknown. These chemicals are colloquially called "smells,"
but they are undetectable with human olfactory systems. Only
high-technology chemical "sniffers" can find and categorize
the pheromones.

The broad, "slapstick" quality of Eslyat broadcast
entertainment derives from the difficulty of communicating
subtle shades of emotion over most media. As a result, Eslyat
dramas and tridee shows exhibit considerable "overacting,"
once considered to be indicative of their primitive
lifestyles. Research has shown that Eslyat appreciation of
the fine arts is actually very refined, and their literature
and visual arts are of high quality.

RCG Association

Regional Commerce & Growth Association (RCGA): A loose
group of corporations banded together to expand commerce in
the Serpent Trace, a cluster of systems located in the
astrographic center of the Vanguard Reaches sector. Largely a
mail union, the RCGA has a few police troops and patrol ships
but fields no interstellar navy. Their symbol is an expanding
tree of growth.

SORAG

SORAG: SORAG (pronounced "SOAR-ag") is a special
purpose, non-military division of the Zhodani Consulate
Combined Interstellar Forces. The name is an acronym for
Study and Operations Recording Activities Group. The purpose
of SORAG is to observe the progress of emerging interstellar
societies using passive means by receiving civilian
transmissions of various types and recording or cataloging
the facts therein. SORAG is a means whereby the Zhodani can
stay abreast of changes in the government and technological
levels of various societies within the Consulate and its
Client States. Although employees are paid via a pay scale
similar to most military systems, SORAG is not directly
affiliated with any military organization.

VANREX

VANREX: An acronym for Vanguard Reaches Extra, VANREX is
a sector-wide news service run by an independent corporation
based on the world Trommler (1618 C-5109B9-B). Correspondents
travel from this central location to wherever news happens
throughout the Vanguard Reaches. Reports from the Far
Frontiers and Malikhar Crescent sectors are routinely filed
as well.

As a well-respected source of accurate, timely and non-
biased information, VANREX bureaus can be found in virtually
every A-class starport in the Reaches. Operating with high-
tech holovideo recording equipment, VANREX has its own fleet
of courier starships (made up mostly of surplus Type S scouts
from the Duchy of Trelyn).

VANREX's list of accomplishments include the exoneration
of Grand Duchess Lyssa Dyana of the Duchy of Trelyn during
her anagathics scandal. A hard-hitting documentary about
treaty violations by Aslan diplomats in the Tellerian Cluster
was credited with averting a war with the Altarean
Confederation.
