Lancaster Subsector is from an ATU setting where the crew of the Starship Notorious tries to make a living.

The coreward side of the subsector belongs to the Pennsylvaani Confederation and the rimward side belongs to the Free State of Maryland. There is an ongoing cold war between these two pocket empires and there are various trade embargoes in effect.
On the trailing side of the subsector is Philadelphia subsector with the very important planet Philadelphia. Most long-range trade to Philadelphia (in Lancaster subsector) goes through Baltimore and then in the Maryland part of the Subsector. This leaves a lot of opportunities for Free Traders in the backwater Pennsylvaani part of the subsector.
The total population of the subsector is close to 11 billion (Most of them live on Baltimore). The highest tech-level is 12 at Baltimore.
Short Write-Ups:
Harrisburg A79869A-B
This planet is the capital of the Pennsylvaani Confederation. It is not the planet with the highest population or highest tech-level. Its location is the reason that it has been chosen as the capital. The ruling class uses the best technology available, imported from Philadelphia. The rest of the planet is currently at tech-level 11.
The bureaucracy and political schemes can sometimes be a problem for free traders and other visitors.
Hampstead E765432-7 Amber Zone
The planet is ruled by different clans (or groups or villages or miners) that control different areas, but not as different nations. One such group controls the starport. The other groups has to pay taxes to the group that controls the starport. Due to vermin, agriculture doesn’t work very well. Famine is common. To keep the vermin from spreading to other planets, the only thing that is allowed to export is metals.
The Amber classification is due to famine (which can cause riots) and the vermin. The most common form of vermin is a small insect-like creature the size of a gnat that can eat most carbon based biological lifeforms. They are locally called Piranha-gnats. Thick clothes and no exposed skin is recommended when visiting Hampstead.
York D654654-5
York is a nice planet and is also an important market for products from Lancaster. Farming machinery used here are usually imported and a few tech levels better than the local tech level.
Agricultural products are the main export. Smaller quantities of medical drugs that have been refined from plants in the vast forests can sometimes be found. Handmade mechanical watches that looks like small pieces of art (and that are very expensive) are also made here. Every noble in the subsector wants to have a genuine Yorkman or Yoxxel watch.
Hershay C431577-7
At Hershay there are a number of petty kingdoms. All kingdoms produce very good chocolate. Every kingdom has its own yearly chocolate festival.
Elizabethtown C567555-9
Elizabethtown is the main planet of an old system. The planet Elizabethtown is slowly rotating around its axis. The day is 42 standard hours. Elizabethtown produces fruits and products made from fruit that is very popular in the subsector. Major imports are metals and machinery.
Shrewsbury C310300-8
On this small planet there are a few mining communities. Miners usually work for shares of what they can find. Some become rich but most leave this rock just as poor as when they got here. Some don’t leave at all.
The largest community is called Kreeger. This is where the class C starport is located. Since fuel has to be transported from Anstine, the systems only gas giant, fuel is 5 times more expensive than the normal price.
This is a border system that is sometimes patrolled by the Pennsylvaani Navy.
Lebanon C443642-6
Lebanon is not a nice planet. The megafauna is dangerous. Due to the thin and tainted atmosphere, filter-masks must be worn at all times (even sometimes indoors). The main exports are ore and wood.
Annville is the name of a the systems huge ringed blue gas giant. The patrol base is on one of Annville’s moons. On another moon there is a huge library that has been placed here to preserve unique historical documents.
Lititz D230430-7
Lititz is a small and very dry planet with a very thin atmosphere. There is almost no visible life here. At some locations it is possible to find some lichen analogues.
Some mining of rare-earth element are done here and this is the planets major export. Everything else is imported. But Lititz has a small population and isn’t much of a market.
Lititz is a shortcut when travelling in the spinward-trailing directions. Since Lititz doesn’t have a gas giant, and is very dry, starship fuel is quite expensive here. (Cr. 300/ton unrefined)
Lancaster B764785-A
Lancaster is the hub of the subsector. (At least on the Pennsylvaani side of the border.) Lots of trade passes through its starport.
The planet is quite nice and has attracted 22 million inhabitants.
The planet Lancaster is the home for the Lancaster Free Traders Society. An organization with over 100 member ships. LFTS has a meeting each year at Lancaster.
New Holland E321432-6
Most of the inhabitants of New Holland are descendants to the first colonist that came here. The colonist found a strange artefact where they landed and built a church for it. The inhabitants are now a very religious people.
The atmosphere of the planet is not very nice, but the church and a few other buildings are pressurized. In most buildings only areas for eating and sleeping are pressurized.
Intercourse E543200-4
This planet is an unimportant, low population and low tech world. Due to religious beliefs, they have a self selected pre-industrial tech-level at Intercourse. Twelve small villages that are ruled by a matriarch each, are located within 100 km from the largest village and starport. All are in a fertile area at the otherwise quite dry planet.
The starport is in farmland where two rivers meet.
Reading B565742-9
Reading is a nice planet except for its dangerous fauna. The cities on Reading is protected against the fauna by powerful electric fences and the air is protected by AI drones with lasers.
Haha! What an awesome idea for subsector! 😀
I just saw this. I live on the rim-spinward side of the Baltimore system, on a planet known as Catonsville :p
Did you have any particular method for generating the planet stats?
Yes, I did use a method. I will post something about it later.
And remember everyone, it’s pronounced LAN-cas-ter, not lan-CAS-ter. Is there a moon-base or subordinate world in the Lebanon system called Annville? I went to college there.
Your collage world or moon is there. 🙂
The old Battletech map had systems named for all the dorms at Shippenesburg. I lived right on the rim.
I didn’t know that. I never played Battletech.
Is the Philadelphia Sector available? There actually was a war between Maryland and Pennsylvania in the 1740’s The Cresap Border War. Mason and Dixon surveyed the definitive border.
For the next season Philadelphia Sector will be ready.
As you may know, there is a Chambersburg Subsector that is used in the season #2.
I was planning to go further west/spinward for season #3, but I have changed my mind. I did make a map for Bedford subsector that you can find here:
